Description

The Glenglassaugh 1974 48 Year Old Cask 1473 represents a remarkable milestone for the distillery, standing as one of its oldest releases to date. Distilled on the 20th of March 1974 and matured for nearly five decades in a hand-selected Pedro Ximenez sherry cask, this extraordinary whisky was carefully watched over by Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie. Limited to just 139 bottles, each has been individually hand-numbered, emphasizing their exclusivity and collectibility. This release captures the essence of Glenglassaugh's idyllic coastal setting along the white sandy beaches of Sandend Bay on the Highland coast, embodying the unique interplay of land and sea that influences its character.

Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie notes, “It’s impossible to separate Glenglassaugh the whisky from Glenglassaugh the place,” highlighting how the distillery's location directly impacts the flavor profile of its whiskies. The resulting spirit is a vivid distillation of its natural surroundings, marked by a lush sweetness and complex coastal influences. Encased in a custom-made wooden box and sealed with wax, this whisky is presented at a natural strength of 40.8%, preserving its original character and potency. The appearance is a striking copper with a ruby hue, leading to a nose of toasted coconut, baked pineapple, and dark chocolate-coated cherry cake on soft supple oak. The palate offers a luxurious journey through rolling waves of tropical fruit and cocoa, with intense cherry liqueur and mocha cream, all intricately woven with a breath of mentholic sea air. This Glenglassaugh 1974 is more than a whisky; it’s a treasure trove of sensory delights, making it a prized addition to any collection.
